by savings
So, I'm not sure if I'll take an extra 200 out of savings and just replenish it in March, or if I'll pay all but 200 and make one extra payment. There is a finance charge when you do that, but one month can't be more than a couple of bucks, right? Still, probably best to just wipe it out. And now I have a more accurate number to work from (120/month… which is significantly cheaper than any other company I found, but still seems high! I do have two drivers on the policy though). When we move, my insurance will probably go UP (which stinks) but hopefully not by too much. And in other happy news — my car loan is down to the point where I COULD wipe it out with one last payment (provided I use a large chunk of my savings). It's pretty freeing to know that I could do this if a fit of insanity came over me! Plus, my repayment is now scheduled to end in April!! It's going to be a SQUEEZE to get this done and my budgets are far from reconciled yet, but I'm absolutely going to make this happen! This will give me a month (give or take, because our move out date is not set in stone) to save before I start paying rent again. Not a lot, but better than nothing I guess. I'm absolutely kicking myself for not getting serious about paying my car off two years ago!

My sister, “Ruth,” has struggled with addiction to prescription medication since high school. My parents have been incredibly supportive for the past eight years. They helped her get into rehabilitation programs, paid for lawyers, car insurance, health insurance and food, and they allow her to live rent-free in their home. This past spring, Ruth finally finished vocational school, but instead of looking for a job, she spends every day in her room playing video games. She doesn’t contribute financially, nor does she help with basic household chores. Recently, she relapsed and ended up back in an outpatient rehab program.
My parents are terrified to throw her out for fear she would (once again) attempt suicide. They have tried giving her deadlines to finish school, get a job and move out, but she always manages to manipulate my parents.
This has destroyed my parents’ lives. My mother is taking medication for anxiety. My high-strung father is so stressed out that he has tantrums and screams in frustration. They have both told me they feel like prisoners in their own home. As a result of all the stress, my parents are separating.
